Cataracts: A Leading Cause of Age-Related Vision Loss

Have you been noticing cloudy, blurry vision that’s getting worse as you age? You could have cataracts, a common age-related eye condition that impacts almost everyone.

They occur when proteins within the eye’s natural lens break down and clump together, often as a result of the natural aging process. Cataracts can cause the following symptoms, impairing vision over time:

  • Trouble seeing at night
  • Light and glare sensitivity
  • Seeing "halos" around lights
  • Fading or yellowing of colors
  • Double vision

Advanced Laser Cataract Surgery at South Florida Ophthalmology

The team at South Florida Ophthalmology is passionate about helping patients achieve their best possible vision, which is why we offer advanced laser cataract surgery. Utilizing the state-of-the-art Alcon LenSx femtosecond laser, your cataract surgeon will create a high-resolution 3D analysis of your eye to tailor the procedure to your specific needs.

Then, they will use the laser to create remarkably precise incisions, as well as soften the cataract-affected lens before breaking it up using ultrasound energy. This results in improved accuracy and a quicker post-operative recovery.

Achieve Your Best Vision after

Cataract Surgery with Premium Lenses

Premium lenses are specialized IOLs that provide patients with enhanced visual benefits after cataract surgery. South Florida Ophthalmology offers multiple types of premium IOLs to suit different lifestyles and visual needs:

Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF)

Extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOLS provide patients a broad range of vision across multiple distances, with smooth transitions between powers for reduced visual disturbances. While some patients still require reading glasses for up-close tasks, those with presbyopia and refractive errors often enjoy visual freedom with most activities. South Florida Ophthalmology offers the AcrySof IQ Vivity EDOF lens in both standard and toric varieties.

Multifocal

Multifocal lenses provide clear vision at multiple distinct distances, often offering patients with presbyopia or refractive errors complete freedom from glasses and contacts. We offer the TECNIS Multifocal IOL and the TECNIS Odyssey IOL at South Florida Ophthalmology.

Toric

Toric intraocular lenses (IOLs) are specifically designed to correct astigmatism, providing clear and precise vision. By addressing astigmatism directly, our toric IOLs reduce visual disturbances and the need for additional correction. Toric IOLs offered at South Florida Ophthalmology include the TECNIS Monofocal Toric IOL, the TECNIS Eyhance Toric II IOL, and the enVista Toric IOL.
